^Female. The Oregon race of the Dark-eyed junco is a fairly common wintering bird in Oasis Valley, arriving in October and departing in April. Never as common as White-crowned sparrows, a few are usually present and often mixing in with other sparrows around houses, visiting seed feeders, and in saltbush-rabbitbrush scrubland.
^Female. 'Oregon' juncos nest in nearby forested mountain ranges to the north and south within a 2 to 3 hour drive, such as the Spring Range to the south, and the Toiyabe Range to the north. They also nest in the pinyon-juniper woodlans of the nearby Grapevine Mountains 20 miles to the west in Death Valley National Park.
